MAY 2020 UPDATES – MAPLE BAY MARINA

We are living in very strange times indeed. Just as everyone’s lives have been profoundly impacted by the events related to Covid-19 pandemic, we are also experiencing the impact of our “new normal”.

As this relates to the marina and our business we are cautiously moving forward, with our ears wide open to the advice of our newest superhero, Doctor Bonnie. I find it quite wonderful that we have found confidence in a gentle thoughtful soft-spoken person (that wears funky shoes). She is in such stark contrast to the bombastic social media and news cycles we seem to have to endure daily. I am personally incredibly grateful to have her calm hand on the tiller.

As we closely watch the BC government and local leaders establish a path forward, we are now considering how we can do our part. This is what we would like to share with you now.

The Marina started “soft openings” May 15, 2020. Please respect the barriers and directional arrows and be gentle with our staff.

Administration Offices

Our offices in the Mariners Market & Espresso Bar are open. During this “down time” we have been busy implementing a new POS (point of sales system). It will integrate many of the routine services at the Marina and you will see changes in procedures at the Fuel Dock, The Mariners Market & Espresso Bar, and in general administration. There will no doubt be normal hic-ups and bugs that will need to be worked out. I assure you we are committed to resolving issues and fixing any mistakes.

Mariners Market & Espresso Bar

In concurrence with the opening of the Administration Offices, we have reopened the Mariners Market & Espresso Bar from 8 AM to 4 PM. We will start with coffees, a small selection of snacks and groceries. If that works, we will shortly move onto ice cream and the menu items. Some consignment items and merchandise will be available, but we do not encourage “browsing” at this time. All seating will be available outside in the concourse area only.

The Shipyard Restaurant & Pub

Speaking with Laurie, she started to open for “take out” May 15 – daily from Noon to 7 PM. Please call orders ahead for pick-up, 250-746-1026. Customers will be required to follow the signage and it will operate on a one-way system. Food and beverages can be taken out to the lawn area or the pavilion and tables will be set up for you to enjoy your meals. We expect some limited bar service will be available as well. Off-sales beer and wine for consumption off site will be available. These plans and hours of operation may change as time goes on.

IMPORTANT: WE WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO CONTINUE THIS SERVICE IF YOU RESPECT ALL SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS.

The Boatyard @ Maple Bay

We will be closing the Boatyard in the next few weeks to do upgrades this summer. Lindstrom will be leaving, and the Marine Supply store will be closing as well. After 15 years at the marina we thank them for their commitment to our customers.

The Boatyard @ Maple Bay will be reopening in the late summer/early fall. I will send out a proper announcement on these exciting changes in the very near future. Rest assured, we are committed to continuing to provide first class service for your baby.

The Fuel Dock

Our fuel dock is considered an essential service. It has remained open with thanks to our own superheroes Doug, Mac, Brent and Ed. It remains open 7 days a week, from 9 to 5. Please respect the new procedures we are required to follow. You will be made aware of them when you take on fuel. Pump out service continues to operate during regular hours as well. There is currently no fee for this service.

Dock Upgrades

A plan was established to start reconstruction of E and F docks this year. With the impacts of the Covid Pandemic we are experiencing some short-term delays. We are pressing forward as we are able, but unfortunately remain at the mercy of the uncertainty of our times. As soon as we have more information we will share it with you.

Harbour Air

The Float Plane service is temporarily suspended but will resume June 1st.

Transient Moorage

We started to accept overnight visitors in a limited way effective May 21, 2020. Reservations are required. We will not accept any “drop in” overnight moorage visitors. Short term “day visits” will be allowed as space permits.
